Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Cataloger? Are you an NGO?
The Cataloger is a small, independent project founded by two dedicated volunteers with a passion for helping stray cats on the island of Paros, Greece. Although we are not a registered NGO, we have made significant contributions to the welfare of local feline populations. Our work is centered around TNR (trap, neuter, return) initiatives, which are essential to controlling the cat population on the island and reducing the number of animals struggling on the streets with diseases or mistreatment. We work closely with Paroscat, an established organization founded by a former UN employee, and other local organizations, to provide medical treatment, TNRed over 100 cats, and even transport cats to loving homes in other countries. We are proud to use our free time to make a difference in the lives of cats in need and contribute to the local community's efforts to improve animal welfare.

What is TNR and why is it important?
Paros, like many other areas around the world, is home to a large population of stray cats. While these cats may seem harmless, the reality is that they often struggle to survive on the streets, facing challenges such as disease, injury, and mistreatment from humans. Additionally, the high cat population can lead to competition for resources, increased risk of disease transmission, and other negative impacts on the local ecosystem.
This is where TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) comes in. TNR is a humane and effective method for managing the cat population in a given area. By trapping cats, having them neutered or spayed, and returning them to their original location, TNR programs can help control the cat population without resorting to more drastic measures such as euthanasia.
In Paros, TNR programs are critical for managing the large population of stray cats and improving their quality of life. By neutering as many cats as possible, we can help prevent further breeding and reduce the overall population. This not only improves the health and well-being of the cats themselves but also helps reduce negative impacts on the local environment and community.
Moreover, TNR programs can also help reduce the burden on animal shelters and other animal welfare organizations, as fewer cats will require rescue and care. This allows us to focus our resources on providing better care for the cats that are already in our care and supporting other animal welfare initiatives in the community.
Overall, TNR is a crucial part of our work to improve the lives of stray cats in Paros. By neutering as many cats as possible, we can help reduce the population, improve their quality of life, and work towards a more sustainable and humane approach to managing the local cat population.
